KRCL Obtains Largest Civil Verdict Ever Rendered in Brazos County District Court

A team from KRCL, led by Houston director Marcy Rothman and including director Danny Guerra, successfully represented former Miami Dolphins center Mark Dennard and his business interests at trial against Robert Piña in the Brazos County 85th District Court this month.  Dennard developed the Wings N More restaurant concept and licensed it through his company, Den Dol, Inc., for use within the Grand Parkway, to Houston area restauranteur, Robert Piña.  In 2012, Piña sought to sell 19 Wings N More restaurants and the Wings N More license to Houston area franchise developers, Govrind and Manish Agrawal. As part of the transaction, the Agrawals sought to expand the rights outside the Grand Parkway.  A dispute arose over payment of transfer fees for the $23,700,000 transaction and over the geographical limitation.  The Brazos County jury found in favor of Den-Dol and against Robert Piña in the largest civil verdict ever rendered in that court: $1.135 million for the breach of contract, $5.7 million for conversion, $5.7 million for misappropriation, and approximately $600,000 for attorneys' fees.  Robert Piña was represented by Walter Cicack at Hawash Meade and the Agrawals are represented by Mike Fallick.
