KRCL Director Michael Logan has authored an article for The Texas Lawbook that explores the implications of the recent expansion of AmLaw 200 firms into the Texas legal market. The article, which was published on July 16, 2018, is titled “Even in Texas, Bigger Isn’t Always Better.”
The legal media loves the mega firms.
The news stream has been rife with story after story about the number of large law firms moving into Texas. Mergers, expansions and new offices of national and international law firms are announced weekly. This has been the case for many years now, with more and more firms continuing to announce.
In the last three years alone, at least 10 national firms have moved into Texas, while many others have significantly expanded their offices. In 2018, three large mergers have already been announced: Clark Hill, a Detroit-based firm, merged with Strasburger & Price; Andrews Kurth merged with Hunton & Williams; and Gardere merged with Foley & Lardner. In addition, many firms have expanded their presence with additional offices.
