Evolving Cybersecurity Threats

Personal information—information from your customers, employees, or your business itself—has become currency for criminals. Consequently, evolving cybersecurity threats for every business, regardless of size or industry, should be concerned with the security of its data. Forbes recently identified “three of the biggest cyber threats”:

First: the practice of employees bringing their own devices to the workplace introduces vulnerabilities that can be difficult for the business to control.

Second: many businesses use “cloud storage” for their data. Cloud storage services come with a variety of security features, some more robust than others. Businesses should be sure to understand the capabilities of the services and the risks involved in cloud storage.

Third: cyber criminals have become increasingly active. In recent months, retailers, banks, and heathcare firms have disclosed data leaks resulting from cyber attacks.

These threats apply to almost every business that uses computers. In addition to high-profile breaches like those experienced by JPMorgan Chase, Home Depot, and Target, criminals have also targeted restaurants, book publishers, universities, government agencies, and commercial websites large and small.
