Jon Hyland focuses on intellectual property litigation across varied technology sectors. As lead counsel in numerous federal court cases, he handles patent, trademark, and copyright disputes, IP licensing strategies, and patent portfolio monetization.

Jon’s technical experience spans an extensive range of fields, including Internet commerce, payment systems computer hardware and software, semiconductors and semiconductor processing and packaging, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and cellular networks, solid-state memory, and biotechnology.

In addition to his broad technical foundation, he regularly appears before federal courts around the country in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret matters.

Beyond litigation, Jon advises on trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters, including enforcement, licensing, and IP issues in mergers and acquisitions. He also guides franchisors on Texas franchise law and IP concerns unique to franchises.

Jon’s data privacy and cybersecurity practice further expands his advisory capabilities, covering compliance with a broad spectrum of regulatory frameworks, including the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

He also represents a diverse roster of clients in the publishing and entertainment industry - from authors, actors, and musical artists to manufacturers and retailers of branded merchandise.
